Penalties for Small Amounts of Marijuana Aren’t Bad in Texas

Criminal charges involving small amounts of marijuana aren’t harsh in the State of Texas which shows some leniency in light of the common misconception that the State is harsh on all criminal offenses. This doesn’t mean that you can’t get up to a 20 year sentence for trafficking large amounts of the drug in the Great State of Texas. Due to our close proximity to the Mexican border, there are some cases of federal drug trafficking prosecuted in Texas. Even though you may have been arrested with a small amount of marijuana, you still need representation by a criminal defense attorney if you have not finished (still resetting the case) with the legal system or plead out. Take my advice, talk to a lawyer if you are arrested for pot in Houston.
